Nice Streets, Mean Streets: Mapping Transportation Accessibility in Southeast Michigan, a collaboration between PEAC and STPP was one of ten worldwide proposals, selected out of a pool of 200, to use Strava Metro's de-identified, aggregated data to develop evidence-based solutions for improving active transportation networks. Our project compared high-traffic streets on Strava against those designated as "mean" or "nice" by PEAC's students. This project demonstrates the need for and value of incorporating individuals with cognitive disabilities into decision-making processes around transportation safety in order to ensure widespread accessibility. Watch the experts discuss their perceptions of Washtenaw Avenue and First Street. For more infomation, read Nice Streets, Mean Streets: Mapping Transportation Accessibility in Southeast Michigan.
Keeping Our Streets Accessible at Night: STPP and PEAC staff collaborated to support PEAC’s efforts to improve the accessibility of commonly used streets by educating decision makers for future policy action. By ensuring that streets are cognitively accessible, our communities remain navigable for everyone.
