STPP Expands Education Offerings

February 26, 2025

STPP continues to offer a number of academic and co-curricular opportunities for undergraduate students, both within and outside of the Ford School, highlighted on our updated webpage. These include student organizations like Leaders for Ethical AI Development Now (LEAD Now), networking and events, experiential learning, academic and career advising, and participation in our Student Research Corps. There is also a comprehensive list of undergraduate courses throughout the university.

Recent trends in graduate education have created barriers for many of our Ford School MPP students to participate in our long-standing graduate certificate program. In response to these concerns, STPP is excited to introduce a new MPP policy concentration as an alternative to the graduate certificate. This offering enables MPP students to earn a designation on their diploma, have access to all STPP events and activities, and become members of the STPP alumni community. MPP STPP concentration students will also be encouraged to take advantage of the academic and career advising that STPP offers, as well coursework beyond the required credits.

As awareness of the social, ethical, and equity impacts of science and technology has increased, STPP has received a growing number of inquiries about enrolling in the certificate program from people who are not current University of Michigan graduate students. In response to this demand, starting in March 2025, University of Michigan postdoctoral fellows will be eligible to enroll in the graduate certificate program. We look forward to welcoming these scholars to our community!
