Broadening Horizons: How STEM-in-Society Programs Train Socially Responsible Scientists, Engineers, and Policy Leaders
This research describes the current landscape of STEM-in-Society higher education programs across the United States and uses case studies—including interviews with program leaders, students, and alumni—to illustrate the current opportunities and challenges these programs face.
The first part of our landscape analysis includes a scan of STEM-in-Society programs and describes their focus areas, student audiences, and where these programs are housed. The second piece of this analysis includes five in-depth case studies and one program snapshot of current STEM-in-Society programs. The case studies and program snapshot reveal the challenges these programs experience, current opportunities, and how STEM-in-Society training benefits students throughout different stages of their careers.
The report closes with recommendations for how university leaders, funding organizations, and STEM-in-Society program administrators can support, sustain, and expand these programs. Learn more at an upcoming webinar on Thursday, April 10 at 4:00 PM EDT.
