STPP Alum Vaidehi (Vai) Shastri has been selected for the American Chemical Society’s Science Policy Fellowship beginning in the fall. At ACS, she’ll be getting an insight into the federal policy landscape while working with the Government Affairs team to craft policy positions for the agency and help members advocate to their elected officials. Shastri is currently finishing up her PhD in chemistry where she has been investigating what makes polymers (plastics) more (or less) recyclable. Shastri shares that her time at STPP was very helpful in equipping her with the tangible skills that helped her land the fellowship, like writing for policy audiences and developing a more nuanced understanding of how policymaking works. In addition, her STPP experience broadened her perspective on the types of knowledge and expertise that are important to consider in making good policy decisions. Congrats to Vai!
